Simple cold brew recipe

Cold brew, isn't that just a rebranding of iced coffee?
While iced coffee and cold brew are both coffee drinks served cold, that's where the similarities end. They use different preparation methods, which produce very different flavors & characteristics.

How to brew cold
So how can you make cold brew at home? If you've got the patience, it's totally worth the wait! The following recipe yields about 38 oz. of cold brew concentrate, which makes about 12 glasses (depending on how strong you like it.)
- Coarsely grind 12oz / 340g of your favorite coffee.
- In a large container, combine ground coffee with 56oz / 7 cups of cold water (room temperature works too!)
- Stir gently to make sure all coffee grounds are saturated. (Tip: A chopstick works brilliantly for this!)
- Cover and leave in a cool, dark place for 12-24 hours. (Tip: I prefer 18, but you can go longer for a stronger brew.)
- Strain cold brew concentrate into your carafe or jug of choice. (Tip: Line a mesh strainer with regular coffee filters to make clean-up easier.)
- Compost or discard the used grounds.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. (But mine never lasts that long!)
Pouring a glass
- Fill a glass (preferably chilled), with 8.5oz of cold water
- Mix in 3oz of cold brew concentrate
- Top with a couple ice cubes
- Enjoy!
